August 2026 Challenge
Technology
How often has your late-night scroll turned into a 2 AM black hole? Social media promised connection, but we got something more complicated: algorithms that know us better than we know ourselves, anonymity that lets people say things they’d never say IRL, people who find each other in unexpected ways, and comment sections that turn strangers into enemies. We’re seeking flash fiction, nonfiction, and poetry about social media and infinite scrolls. Think: parasocial relationships, screen time blues, and learning to live beyond the dopamine machines in our pockets.
Send us your stories, essays, and poems about fake accounts and shadow bans, the chronically online and those who disappear without a trace, and how it feels to use a product that uses you back. How does social media make us lonelier, more isolated, and more fractured? Conversely, how does it build community—and even rebellion?
We welcome writing of all forms: flash fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and hybrid work. Three winners will be selected and published at the end of September. To get a sense of what we publish, read our past winners.
We are now offering editorial commentary on submissions. For an additional fee, you’ll receive two feedback notes from our experienced editors or readers. To learn more and submit, head to Duosuma.
